Our proprietor, Alanna Armstrong-McCarroll was featured in the Evening Chronicle yesterday.
WITH an increasing number of curvy role models stealing the headlines, plus-size fashion has never been more in demand. And thankfully the high street has responded with an increasing number of stores launching new collections to encourage girls to embrace their curves.
One such lady is Alanna Armstrong-McCarroll from Cullercoats. The 32-year-old runs Heaven Therapy specialising in pregnancy treatments, offering both massage and pregnancy reflexology to support clients through pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.
We decided it was Alanna’s turn to be pampered and treated her to a well deserved spring makeover. The first stop was Regis hair salon in Eldon Square, where stylist Alisha ensured that Alanna’s hair was sleek and shiny using a volumising foam to give height at the root. Then it was off to the Lancome counter in Boots where make-up artist Felicity opted for a glamorous smoky eye using neutral tones to enhance Alanna’s
gorgeous brown eyes. A pop of pink colour on the lips finished the look. Finally we headed to Evans in
Debenhams, Eldon Square, to check out its latest range for spring. Evans specialises in sizes 14-32 and
believes that the key to looking your best is to select styles to flatter your shape and dress your curves with
In order to make this as simple as possible, Evans has an in-store shape specialist who can take your measurements and identify whether you’re an apple, pear, busty or hourglass and suggest styles to suit.
Alanna’s measurements meant she qualified as a pear shape. The best way to balance up this shape, according to the brand, is to keep neutral or dark tones on the lower half of your body and get creative with your top half using vibrant colours and patterns. For our first outfit we couldn’t resist the ultra-feminine gypsy top in a delicate pastel butterfly print. With a flowing longline design and three-quarter-length sleeves, this is perfect for summer and can be teamed with slim-leg trousers. Evans has some beautiful lace pieces in store – we loved the seductive black lace jacket which we teamed with a simple black top and some khaki highwaist
jeans to create a chic evening look. Animal print remains a must-have and this sweeping maxi dress can be easily dressed up or down to suit any occasion. The Scarlett & Jo collection at Evans incorporates some of the latest styles into plus-size fashion, including trend-led skater dresses, peplum tops, crochet trim necklines and embellished shoulders. We opted for a vivid coral tunic with rosette detailing on the shoulder from this collection, teamed with simple black leggings and heels. As floral prints are always a signature spring summer look, we selected a flowing kimono style top, with trailing grey rose design and a tie belt at the waist. This was complemented by a pair of boot cut trousers that have been designed by Evans to perfectly fit a pear shape, flattering the hips, thighs and legs.
